Been a Slow Week

Sorry everyone it's been a slow week.  If it's not one thing, its another.  From a tummy bug to high blood pressure.  I'm trying to quit smoking, and I am still cleaning the studio.  I'm hoping to get some art made soon, hopefully this weekend.  Meanwhile, enjoy taking a look at these mono type paintings.  I know one of them is in another post with a frame.  This is the scan so hopefully it has some more detail.

Got a few things done today but there's always so much left to do.  It never ends.
More art coming soon as I feel better.

Thank you for taking the time to read my Blog.

Mess In the Studio

Well it's Tuesday.  I am trying to clean the studio. It seems hopeless as there is too much stuff in too small of a space.

I think I need an airplane hanger. Like I could keep that clean. It's a very nice day out here in St. Louis, mid 70s.  I was hoping to get a lot done, but that pesky stomach bug is still aggravating me.

As soon as I get the studio a little cleaned up I can paint. I've been putting stuff in the studio  for weeks. So its quite a task to sort all the junk. It seems to have been the catch all. The trash man won't be happy this week.

As you can see what a mess, what a mighty big mess. While it may not look so bad in the pictures, trust me, its a mess.

I have built shelves everywhere, and yet there never seems to be enough storage.

Here you can see the drying rack storage thingies I built.

More shelves over here, with some outdated computer equipment. I really must do something about all this junk that I seem to have collected over the years.

I'm sure one day I will have it clean, at least for a day or two!

Something I found while cleaning , I thought it was nice. I am not sure what I will
do with it. It just doesn't seem finished. Anyway must get back
to the mess at hand.

It's still Monday. With all the cloud I thought we could use some color.

The flower, I always seem to paint the same flower. Not sure why but it works. I have painted and printed the same flower over and over. For the past twenty years. But it never comes out the same, sometimes similar, but never the same.

For the most part I am self taught. I did go to a small college for a few years. No one really taught me how to paint the way I do. Though technically it may be considered a mono type print, for me I like to think of it as painting with paint. I find I enjoy it a lot.

There is just something about paint on the glass, the canvas, on the floor, in your hair, and all over your clothes. As you may have guessed I make a huge mess when I paint. Most of my mono print paintings are 16 x 20 or smaller do to time constraints on paint drying and the amount of paint needed.

I mostly use acrylics.  I would like to try oils some day but the cost would be astronomical and the clean up. But maybe one day I will get the chance to try. So here are a few of that famous flower.

This is a few sets of the flower drying. Painted just around Christmas.
It takes a few days to a week to dry most the time.

Here is a one with one of the frames I made the other day. The frames are not fancy. They're made out of cheap damaged pine I got in the clearance bin at the hardware store.  I took the wood home, cut it up with a table saw, cut it again on the miter saw, then pinned and glued the pieces together.  To paint them, I used a paint and acrylic wash, wiped it off before it dried, and sealed the frames with polyurethane and a brush; not the most optimal way to do it but I don't have the room to spray.  I have the equipment, but not the space!  These were, instead, painted by hand, outside, on a beautiful sunny day!

The frames turned out alright for a first try; not great but not too bad either.  I would have preferred to have sprayed them, but need more space.

So that's the flower I so often paint, print or whatever you wish to call it, I just call it Art.

Now for a very unique piece that hangs over my fire place:

This piece consists of three sets of nine prints for a total of twenty seven pieces of art mounted to diamond plate aluminum.  Its approximately three foot by four foot.
There are actually three different paintings, each consisting of nine parts, and all three of them were used to make this piece.  If you were to take it apart, and had the patience to work out the "jigsaw", you could put them back together again to make up the three originals.

This is the kind of work I do.  I hope you find it as interesting to look at as I find it interesting and fun to produce.

Another Monday ~ Cloudy Skies With Black & White Paintings

Its Monday and I'm still not feeling very well. I have some kind of stomach bug still. :-(

Today I have a bit of art work that's hanging about my house that I'd like to show you.

Everyone seems to love the black and whites. They are not easy to make. Its something about the paint these days; twenty years ago I don't remember having a bubbling issue, but these days I can not seem to find a good paint to make them. I will keep searching and when I get some money I will try again.

So without further ado...

These are some of my collection of "Bryce" black and whites.
I have made quite a few, however they seem to be hard to hold onto.

I hope to make more as soon as I can. While they are a mess to make and take gallons of paint
they look great anywhere when they turn out.  I hope you think so too.

The Art Must Go On

Not feeling so great today, maybe sinuses, we all hate them.  After sneezing for the last ten minutes, my head feels a little stuffy.  But as they say, the art must go on.

I have a new editor for my blog.  I'm not much of a writer.  My new editor is AG Handmades.  If you get a chance go read her blog. :-)  She is an excellent writer and wonderful with fiber arts (crochet).  But let's get on with it and show you some art. :-)

Shall we start with a sail boat.

I was asked to do something for a little boy.  I first tried using watercolors, and apparently, I am not so good at watercolors!  I then tried my own style of painting, with acrylics.  The background is a watercolor wash, but I used acrylics on top of that.

That was my first attempt at a sail boat, ever!

While there were several prints made, this is the only one I have left.  The better ones are all gone to other people now.  I just wanted to show some diversity in my style.  I mostly paint flowers; for 20 years, I've painted flowers, but I do paint other things too, and this is what I wanted to show.

The little baby the sailboat picture was made for ended up getting a digital version of the piece, because the actual paintings were too large, but it fitted the nautical theme of the little guy's new bedroom really well.

Digitally, it was fun to make.  I used three different sail boats in three different colors and played around with the images.  Most of the other sail boat prints are gone but I kept this one. It is on 18 x 24 inch watercolor paper.

The sailboat was unique for me, because I m not used to painting sailboats, I am used to painting the same flower, over and over again, but it is good to try new things.  That is how we learn and grow in our art.

From sail boats to wrapping paper. Yes, I do paint my own wrapping paper! It's not fun to wrap with but it's something no one else has on their presents.

The thing is, anybody can make hand-painted wrapping paper, you can even use butcher block paper.  It's not as easy to wrap with as regular wrapping paper, but it's all your own work!

It has been said that my wrapping paper is "unique", that is what I like - it's what I happened to have, and I used what I had.  Anyone can do the same, and the results will all be as unique as the next person's as everyone has their own style of expression.

Everyone might not be able to paint in my style, but everyone can paint in theirs.  The paper used for these presents was one hundred percent cotton rag paper. Most people have printer paper, so let's see your imaginations set free!  Let's see some unique wrapping paper!

Don't forget to check out AG Handmades! :)

Bangert Island Park

Bangert Island Park is located in St. Charles, Missouri.
In the fall of 2013, I entered a contest for paint your
county parks. I got in however due to an email fault
on my part I didn't receive notification.

So the piece never showed. However I thought
I could use the piece to somewhat explain
the process. While I don't have all of the
images anymore, I do have a few.

So lets start by showing you the picture I took
in the park.

After I took the photo I went home, put it into the computer,
a little processing, and this is what I got.

Then to paint it. I placed paint onto glass, then printed
the image off onto canvas. For the first set I tried
too make eight by ten prints. I don't have the first set at the moment, they
are lost in the studio. They really didn't turn out well anyway.

For my second attempt I used 16x20 inch canvases.
Again printing off glass.

For the final set I went to 24x36 inches. This time I put the paint
on the canvas. Then printed directly off the painting itself.
So the below picture is the plate for the third set and a painting.

This took a ton of paint.
I ran out of brown in less then five minutes.
Here is a detailed image to attempt to show you what it looks like up close.

Now to see the print. It was printed off the painting above onto
photo paper.

So apart from the first set this is almost start to finish of this project.
Let me know what you think as always.

Playing With Fireworks

Yesterday I went to the park and I took some firework photos.
When I got home I played around with a few of them
and this is what I got.

Let me know what you think.
 Love it or Hate it?

                                                                                                                             Mo

What do you get when you cross meat and fireworks?
Well lets see.

As usual let me know what you think about my art.

                                                                                               Thank You
                                                                                                                 Mo

I made another firework image.
Here it is.

Hope you like it as much as I do.

A Celebration of Freedom

Its the 4th of July

A time for fun , A time for laughs, A time to spend with friends and family.
I hope everyone Is enjoying their 4th.

Speaking of fun, lets see some fun 4th Colors.

The Photo Above Is Wet Paint

Do you see what's wrong? Probably not, lets explain the wet paint
is on a sheet of glass. In order to create monotypes I print off the glass.
So when I print off the glass I will get a mirrored image.
And guess what , its backwards.

A few hours of frantically trying to lay in paint
as fast as I can. Its approximately 20x30 inch of paint about quarter inch thick.
So after hours of work , well days really as its all prep I ended up
with several backwards prints. Doh

Really a rookie mistake but was tired and on a deadline
and sometimes you get excited, tired, and do the silliest things.
These prints were to be original acrylic prints for a digital cut out.

Well mistakes happen. But in the end, I finished my project, and then some.
Mistakes are not always bad.  No use crying over spilled milk.

In the end I made some awesome digital works, some shirts and a few
nice small mono prints.

Above are Prints Photographed and Digitally Edited

After rotating and flipping them in a computer they look great.
Couldn't be happier.

Give me a few days or a week I will post the final result
of the series this was all part of.

Some Paint left on the glass.

And what did we do?

Check out
To see the other prints that turned out from this.

So in the end I failed to get in the show I was trying for. However
not all was lost. Because of the mistake and the failure to get in
the show. I made these......

Above Printer Ran Outta Ink But Loved the Color Change

I'm not sure if you like my shirts. But I love them.

A blow-up of the image on tee shirt that had color issues.
A one of a kind.

But I didn't stop there. Since I liked my new tee shirts so much
I made another one.

So as always let me know what you think. And don't let the little
things get to you. Try hard enough and it will all turn out
in the end.

Don't get discouraged by a few little mistakes.

And Have A Fun and Safe 4th of July
