Happy Holidays

I tried my hand at making some pens. Some went well others well, things happen.

Ok that one didn't go so well.

I wanted to make some nice Christmas presents
for people because I just don't have the
funds at the moment.

I also thought it would give me something
do. May help me feel a little better.
Well as all good plans go,
behind schedule and
over budget.

The plan was to use cheap
pen parts. The more
I got into it, I started using
pen kits for wood turners.

I started out making these.

Top is a pen cost like 20 cents or less.
Bottom is a pencil I made
using 40/60 solder as the lead.

It is to never run out of
lead. It writes in metal.

However contains lead.
While I did plan to make a
few. I ran out of time
to get them finished
before Christmas.

I did make a few pens with purple ink for Christmas.

I then moved on to make these. Again most didn't get
done before Christmas but I did get a few done.
They use a pen kits for wood turners.
While aluminum is cheap
looks good and is light weight.
I think I will use brass for the
next few. Its easier to work with.
Looks great but adds a bit of weight.

Its Been A Long Time

I always liked to build things, Create stuff, make things. My first word ever wasn't Mom, It wasn't Dad. It was in fact screwdriver. I have always loved tools. Big or small, red, pink, yellow or black I do admire them all. As a teenager I had never really ever used power tools. I had no power tools and no one took the time to show me how useful they are. Till Trace did. Before that I had always used hand tools as its all I had and is all I was used too. After  Trace got me into power tools hooked. I now have access to some amazing tools. Without power tools I believe making this test piece would not of been possible. Its amazing what a diamond bit and 60,000 rpms can do. This is my first attempt at engraving metal. A test. Would of been easier if I had a CNC machine. Maybe next time. I cant afford one. I do plan to try to build one. Not sure how that will go or how long it will take. Without the inspiration of Trace I don't believe I would ever even attempt such a project. I would like to Thank Trace for all he taught me and the impact he had on my life. I just hope Trace likes it as much as I enjoyed making it.
When and if I finish this project up I will post the results. Hope you enjoy also.

Not Many Words, Quite A Few Tears
Miss you Bro

Above is the final piece it is the saw blade used to cut up the
Tree House he made for his kids.
 After years of weathering
the Tree house was taken
down because it was falling apart.
